Conducting Pilot Study and The Results

A Pilot Study was conducted in early April 2010 and inlvolved
students in Department Architecture, Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University.

Several problems occured during the pilot study and students gave some feedback such as:
DETAIL:
- Students need more detailed information.
- Combining text and images in one balloon make the information easier to be read (collective memory)
- Alternatively balloons should be designed to be flexible (can be removed, pop-up balloons-appeared/disappeared, etc)
RECOGNISABILITY
- Location of Malioboro is slightly difficult to be seen, when the models were displayed. The basic models (without textures) disturb the ability to recognise the places → building roof should be modelled by attaching the texture from google earth satellite images
ACTIVITY SUPPORT
- some students found that the 3Dmodels sank too deeply, so they couldn’t see the shopping arcades (pedestrian walkways) → (it might be caused the terrain layer is off)
- it is important to models the terrain to show the street, pedestrians dan open spaces, because sometimes they were asked to design that spaces based on activity support.
- Model of street, open space, pedestrian, etc can be downloaded.
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AND CIRCULATION
- street should be modelled in detail such as showing the halte, parking area for traditional vehicles (horse carriage, ‘becak’, etc).
- provide information about transportation system and circulation

Results from the pilot study were presented in eCAADe Conference in September 2010
